GISSLER & PASS: A BEAUTIFUL STORY.
GISSLER & PASS keeps up with the times without turning a blind eye to the past.
The company was formed in 1882… and a lot has happened since then.
1882
The vision of a stable, flexible packaging material. It finally came true in 1871. A chemist by the name of Albert Jones invented corrugated board. A short while later – in 1882 to be exact – Hermann Gissler and his cousin, Carl Wilhelm Pass, founded their paper Business.
1924
Walther Gissler recognised the enormous future potential of this manufacturing material and bought 1924 a corrugated board factory in JĂĽlich from the Englishmen Thompson and Norris. This was an extremely far-sighted decision. GISSLER & PASS quickly developed into a pioneer in the corrugated board field on the European mainland.
1961
The expansion of the company continued after the end of the Second World War. It was in 1961 that Dr. Richard Gissler-Weber opened a second plant in Rodenberg.
1963
saw GISSLER & PASS take over the “Dürener Druck und Verpackungsgesellschaft”, the DDV, and expanded its production range to include offset laminated packaging.
1971
the Lorsbeck plant was opened as a modern corrugated board production facility for transportation packaging.
1984
the packaging designers at GISSLER & PASS began to use a CAD computer programme in their work. – Once again the company was able to adopt a pioneering role in the corrugated board industry.
1987
GISSLER & PASS ended the company tradition of paper manufacturing and built up the main part of its business around the expansion of corrugated board packaging and displays.
1994
the certification of all three factories according to ISO 9001 standards was finally completed.
1997
was the year in which GISSLER & PASS became part of the Alliabox network and expanded its international activities in Europe.
1999
GISSLER & PASS presents offset-direct, the litho print directly on G- and F-Flute corrugated board.
2000
The end of the 20th century saw GISSLER & PASS set yet another visionary milestone in Kirchberg: the opening of a plant for display manufacture and co-packing.
2001
saw the introduction of the first high quality, large format flexo printing machine.
2003-2006
the Rodenberg plant expanded its product portfolio to include litho laminated packaging. Expansion in buildings and machinery has now turned the plant into an “all-round” partner for our customers and into a second, equivalent offset-plant.
2007
GISSLER & PASS started up with a new machinery for laminating large size double corrugated board in Jülich (operating size: 1620 x 1620 mm). Furthermore, the basis for the new offset print plant was deposited – land acquisition and beginning of construction!
2008
was the official inauguration of the new offset print plant in JĂĽlich as the fifth plant of GISSLER & PASS. Henceforth GISSLER & PASS is printing in XXL format. Besides three state-of-the-art printing machines the offset printing plant has a modern storage and logistic concept, an automated colour laboratory and a central colour supply available. The new plant conforms to highest environment standards and grants a resource saving production.
2009
GISSLER & PASS introduces two new specialty folder gluers in JĂĽlich and Rodenberg (TURBOX) in order to produce multi-piece packaging, e.g. shelf-ready packaging solutions.
2010
is all about flexo printing. The focus is on the optimization of high-quality flexo direct printing technology in Lorsbeck and Rodenberg.
2011
All plants are FSC®-certified.
2013
Energy Management: all plants are certified to DIN 50001.
2014-15
Major investment programme initiated at the Rodenberg and JĂĽlich locations.
The new production hall adds another 11,000 sqm floor space to the Rodenberg plant. Beside the brand new five-colour high-quality flexo inline machine and an additional flatbed die cutter, the entire plant is equipped with cutting-edge conveyor systems to ensure fully automated, efficient operation upstream and downstream of the production and processing gear. This modernisation effort has helped to entrench the plant as a centre of excellence for the just-in-time production of high-grade multi-colour flexo- and offset-printed sets of packaging and displays. At the same time, the JĂĽlich location saw the arrival of a large-format flatbed die cutter and automation investments being made.
2020
In 2020, the family-owned company expands the laminating & processing capacities at the JĂĽlich plant under the slogans of automation & digitalisation and introduces a new ERP system.
2022
With the new Gluing Competence Center, GISSLER & PASS starts its fifth plant at the JĂĽlich site in 2022. The goal is to develop folding gluing into a benchmark for the packaging industry using a state-of-the-art technology and the many years of expertise of the employees. With a spacious and bright working atmosphere, the gluing center offers sufficient space for future growth in order to be optimally equipped for market developments. The high level of specialization and the wide range of products, from mass-produced to "exotic", are already among the strengths in the adhesive bonding sector.
