Sustainability at
GISSLER & PASS
We act sustainably with the sense of responsibility of a family business. Family value makes us unique and ensures security.
As a medium-sized, owner-managed family business, we are proud of our corporate culture, which has grown and is characterised by values. The constant orientation towards our values has made us what we are today: an independent company that ensures innovations in packaging and display solutions with a will to perform and creativity.
Sustainability strategy
Sustainability – a topic for our entire company, across all areas. Â
After more than 140 years of company history full of changes, sustainability is not a new concept for us. Not in business. Nor in our dealings with the environment, climate and society. For us, economic growth is in harmony with ecological and social thinking. That’s why we use resources carefully, support education, research and culture, and work on future solutions that make sustainable development possible for everyone.
Our goal is to offer our customers sustainable solutions with our products. One example of a successful packaging concept developed together with the customer to reduce the amount of plastic in packaging is the Dash washing powder packaging from the dalli-group.
Transparent and responsible
We are fully committed to the sustainable reduction of our carbon footprint and want to significantly reduce our greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. Joining the SBTi (Science Based Target initiative) in December 2023 underlines our commitment to transparent and responsible implementation of sustainability measures.
What is the SBTi?
The SBTi is an alliance of partners CDP, United Nations Global Compact, World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and works closely with scientific institutions to develop climate targets that are in line with the requirements of the Paris Agreement. SBTi targets are consistently geared towards drastically reducing the company’s direct and indirect emissions.
What does this mean for us in concrete terms?
Our goal:
To reduce CO2 emissions by 42% by 2030. The reference year for this is 2021.
This relates to the company’s own production (Scope 1) and emissions from energy procurement (Scope 2).
A significant step towards achieving the target has been taken: Since the end of 2023, we have switched our energy supply completely to electricity from renewable technologies. The switch to green gas will follow from 2025.
In addition, we have been using energy management software since 2022 and work closely with an external consultancy.

Certifications
Our certified management system is proof of quality, environmental protection in practice and consistent energy efficiency.Â
ISO 14001
Environmental management
All plants have been certified since 2001. All processes are regularly reviewed, assessed and further improved to protect the environment.
FSC® - Forest Stewardship Council®
The responsible use of natural resources is a matter of course for us. The raw material wood comes exclusively from exemplary managed forests.
ISO 50001 - Energy management
Certified since 2013: we relieve the environment by constantly improving energy efficiency and sustainably reducing energy costs.
Recycling cycle
100 % recyclable – Our packaging protects nature.
Today, material cycles are considered the key to a sustainable future. The recycling of packaging and displays made of paper, cardboard and corrugated board, which has been working well for decades, is the best example of this. Here, economy and ecology go hand in hand in an exemplary manner.
Innovations management
New requirements, new possibilities! Our material corrugated board is coming into focus more than ever in the wake of consumers’ increased environmental awareness. We are currently experiencing a great surge in innovation. Completely new areas of application are opening up, we can try things out and produce good examples and trend-setting developments.
The raw material grass and the substitution of the previous Ramazzotti on-pack packaging made of plastic with an environmentally friendly alternative are just two examples of new, sustainable concepts.
“When it comes to substitution, there are still many untapped opportunities for ecologically beneficial packaging. A study published by the Society for Packaging Market Research in 2019 estimates that more than a fifth of all plastic packaging can be replaced by corrugated board. “
Climate neutral packaging
Exemplary CO2 handling: avoidance – reduction – compensation
Packaging and displays made of corrugated board are largely made of recycled material, only about 20 % are virgin fibres. It could hardly be more environmentally friendly – and yet, despite numerous measures taken along the entire value chain, climate-damaging gases are still released during the manufacturing process. In order to produce packaging with the label “climate neutral”, the CO2 consumed must be saved elsewhere.
